This Halloween, embrace fall without comprising the environment and say “Yes to Less”with a few simple steps:
*Have a neighborhood costume swap! Instead of buying brand new costumes for your kids, invite friends to bring their used Halloween costumes over and let kids (and adults) swap or mix and match to add your own creative twist. Who knows, maybe Spiderman is the favorite superhero of someone else right down the street!
*Look for candy with minimal packaging or skip the candy all together and consider giving out fun trinkets like matchbox cars, barrettes, or coins. Kids will love their new treasures and their parents will appreciate the creative alternative.
*Light your Jack-O-Lanterns with beeswax candles instead of soy or paraffin ones. Paraffin is a by-product of petroleum refining and release toxins in the air that are harmful to you and the environment. Beeswax candles release negatively charged ions that counteract the positive charge of dust, neutralizing and literally cleaning the air you breathe!
*Trick-or-Treat with reusable bags or pillowcases to prevent thousands of plastic bags from going in the landfill. A simple white pillowcase can become magical with the right craft supplies. Try adding (nontoxic) glow in the dark paint for a spooky touch!
